Compassion and Justice
The Christian Centre is passionate about touching the lives of those who find themselves disadvantaged or marginalised in Nottingham. We believe that each and every one of us should embrace the gospel mandate of engaging with issues of poverty in some way, and to facilitate this, we work hand in hand with 58i, our sister charity. The vision is inspired by the words of Isaiah 58, where God instructs that we are to share our food with the hungry, clothe the naked and provide shelter for the
homeless. Scores of volunteers from both inside and outside the Christian Centre are mobilized in projects that have been established to do just this. Below is a list of some of the projects we are currently working on. If you would like to be a part of any of these, please contact Luke or Lynne, on the details to the left.
Overview
CAP (Christians Against Poverty) – volunteers are needed to support Carol with debt counselling. Again commitment can vary depending on your availability but all work is required to take place in the day time. All training will be provided. If you would further information about CAP or would like to access this service click here.
Company - Company is a group for parents/carers and their pre-school children. Currently, one meets in Beeston on a Monday morning and one in St Ann's on a Thursday morning, both term time only. It is a great place where children can play and learn and parents have the opportunity for adult conversation and to discuss parenting.
Nottingham Nightstop – requires volunteer hosts and drivers. Hosts are required to provide availability at the beginning of each month, but commitment is flexible. You might want to be available one night a month or one night a week, it's up to you. Drivers will similarly be called on as and when needed.
Operation Rudolph – please look out for notices in church in October/November.
Prison Ministry – requires volunteers to join the team for our monthly visit to Nottingham Prison. This takes place on the last Tuesday of the month at 5.30pm, meeting at Nottingham Prison in Sherwood. There is also a planning meeting on the third Tuesday of the month at 7.30pm at church.. From time to time we also visit Whatton Prison on a Sunday evening. To get involved contact Luke ( This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ).
Rally - requires volunteers to help prepare and serve food. This is a once every three week commitment on either a Tuesday or Wednesday night.
Standing For Justice (S4J) – if you want to join our S4J group and receive monthly mail outs, please contact Luke ( This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ), and we will add you to the mail out list.
Renew - Renew offers practical help, such as decorating and gardening, in the homes of those who would not otherwise be able to do the work. Volunteers need to be able to offer a day every couple of months, and also need to be prepared for some hard work! Please contact This email address is being protected from spambots.
