History

The Christian Centre (CC) has a history dating back to the 1920s. For many years, the church had a nomadic existence, worshipping in a wide range of buildings across the city. In the late 1960s, land on Talbot Street (T St) was secured enabling our current campus to be established. Since this time, we have continued to develop that site and acquire other buildings. God has spoken to us about being a 'light on a hill', that 'He has many people in this city' (Acts 18) and about His desire for us to establish a Cathedral building at His appropriate time.

In the late 1970s, David Shearman  took over from his father (Ernest) as the Senior Leader. He continues to fulfil that role assisted by the elders and leadership team (link). The congregation has grown to be multi-cultural and is now more than one thousand strong with a multitude of thriving ministries.
